The CSR Professional Award

The honour goes to Anne Mette Christiansen in the CSR Forum CSR Professional Award 2011!

The members of CSR Forum decided that Anne Mette Christiansen from CSR Greenland was most deserving of credit for her work on advancing CSR in Greenland. The winner was announced as part of the CSR Awards 2011 conference in Sonderborg on September 29.

Anne Mette Christiansen

Introducing CSR in Greenland

Anne Mette Christiansen has been the key driving force to introduce strategic CSR in Greenland. Over a little more than a year she has helped Greenland businesses as well as public authorities to develop and implement CSR strategies.

According to Anne Mette "CSR is an important driver for change in the Greenlandic society. Companies play a major role in tackling some of the social and environmental challenges in the Greenlandic society and CSR helps them shape this engagement.

A driver for change

Among the many initiatives, Anne Mette has been a central driving force in establishing a national CSR Network for companies, a Forum for CSR between government and business, Transparency Greenland and a diversity network. She has also worked with almost all larger Greenlandic companies to develop and implement CSR strategies and policies.

"Anne Mette has done an excellent job at interpreting CSR into a Greenlandic perspective with the unique challenges that the country and its companies face. She definitely deserves a prize for this work." says Christian Keldsen, Chief commercial officer, Air Greenland

Prior to working with CSR in Greenland, Anne Mette was a Senior Manager at pricewaterhousecoopers.

Annette Stube

Leading change

Annette is Director of Group Sustainability in the Maersk Group. She has led the change towards a systematic and strategic integration of CSR into the way the company runs its business. First, being part of pioneering CSR in Novo Nordisk, she joined Mærsk in 2008 to do the same in a very different set-up. Since then, Maersk has taken a major step toward becoming a more sustainable business, taking the lead in several of its industries.

 A wider impact

"When people ask me what I do for a living, I find it hard to answer. I usually say that because of what I do, people have better and safer jobs, they get a decent salary and we have less pollution in the environment. But actually, because we as CSR people work within companies, we also impact a much wider society as a result of doing business in a responsible way; as such, we create new jobs, we raise standards of living in poor regions and we develop services and innovations that counter climate change. I constantly strive to tell this story in a tangible and measurable way".

 More sustainable business

"Annette has successfully systematized the approach of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group including all its business units in most aspects of CSR. Reporting has been improved as well as the Group's ability to conduct its business more sustainably. This has been accomplished in a short time span considering the size and complexity of the Group", says Steen Reeslev, Senior Vice President for Group Relations.

Mette Morsing

Developing a CSR research agenda via collaboration

Mette Morsing has led cbsCSR from ”two people in one office” till around 20 CBS researchers and 20 international   guest scholars visiting annually, and today Denmark is acknowledged for having one of the largest and most respected CSR research units among international business schools. Based on a strong belief in collaboration as the key to sustainable development in all respects, Morsing has prioritized the building of national as well as international  networks and activities.

Educating the leaders of tomorrow

One of Morsing’s focus areas over the last decade has been the effort to integrate CSR into the curriculum of CBS's 18.000 students across bachelor, master, executive and phd students and to have CBS sign UN PRME in 2008. “Our students are tomorrow’s leaders and their skills, assessments and ways of reflecting about business and the world in ways that are sustainable for longer than till the next quarterly financial report, is crucial. There is an enormous responsibility for us as educators, not just to educate those students that understand the tremendous societal impacts and potential of business decisions but also to educate those who do not”.

Internationally renowned

“Mette Morsing’s excellent research combined with her dedicated and relentless effort to establish and develop the field of CSR at Copenhagen Business School have deservedly earned huge respect and admiration – both nationally and internationally". Says Alan Irwin, Acting President of CBS.

Over the last ten years, Mette has successfully mobilised students, corporations, public authorities and research colleagues across several disciplines in order to develop our Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility.
